Sumner County is unique!

In all of Tennessee, it is the only county to support five distinct public libraries.  The libraries are operated by the Sumner County Commission which appoints and oversees the Board of Trustees as it sets policy for library operations.  Funding is provided primarily by Sumner County Government and each city government with help from the Friends of the Library.  A cooperative effort was utilized in building with funding from the county, city, and private donors.

Libraries are among the most effective of all public services, serving more than two-thirds of the public with four percent of all tax dollars.  Sumner County libraries provide valuable resources at the local level and serve as a link to the free resources offered by the Tennessee State Library and Archives; the Tennessee Electronic Library  and the Regional E-book and Audiobook Dowload System (READS).

Friends of the Library

Each library has an active friends group.  These are non-profit organizations that support the mission and goals of the library through volunteer work, educational efforts, and financial support for library programs and projects.   Ask a librarian how you can join.
